History Project

This project is to convey the narrative of the selected historical event. My chosen historical event was the story of Boudicca and I chose this because of my prior interest in Celts and Boudicca herself so I believed this interest will keep me motivated and determined to keep working.

Originally, I had thought of a book cover, one that you could find in the teen or young adult section and seeming a more dramatic piece. However, before anything could be done with this idea I began thinking of what I would want to do after university which led me to realising that with my skillset and how my illustrations tend to look, I would be better suited for children's media so the first idea was scrapped and a new idea took place in my mind and rooted itself.
The idea is to create an animation to tell the tale of Boudicca but instead of people, it uses cats. The reason I chose this is because I wanted it to be something that children would enjoy and keep them engaged. Not to mention, it would allow me to keep the story a bit more light-hearted and add in some comedic scenes to lighten the mood and make it more enjoyable to the audience.
I first began by looking into the story itself of Boudicca, whilst already knowing the story I mostly only know the broad strokes of it so I wanted to go into further detail and I looked into the Celtic opinion of cats in case they actually hated cats and making them cats in the animation would be insensitive to their beliefs.

Then I looked into how cats look in different viewpoints and positions to practice how a cat looks and moves since despite owning multiple cats, I had never paid full attention into their movements, especially at their level but instead from a taller viewpoint.
In an attempt to take a momentary break to calm my brain, I made a partial portrait of Boudicca as a cat and used a blue for colour patches to mimic the war paint the Celts would wear.
