Science Project

For this project, we pick a science question and create illustrations explaining the answer to the question. I chose the question of How Does Rain, Hail, Sleet and Snow Form? and I chose to illustrate the answer as children's book illustrations.
When looking into how I should illustrate this and decided to use Lauren Child and Jill Calder as research and inspiration for how it should look as well as how the type should be placed and how it can be used.

I then found out what the answer to the question actually was and found out about the water cycle and how rain, sleet, hail and snow are all precipitation and that they all follow the water cycle and the main difference is the temperature when they fall back down to the ground.

Now that I knew what was meant to happen, I created a quick script in which the children's book can follow and help me visualise a little better for what the illustrations should have on each page.
Whilst writing this, I decided that the layout was to be square and that each illustration except the cover was to be a double page illustration.
I went on to do some thumbnails for the cover and then went on to do one thumbnail for each double page just to see how it could be done then figure out which double pages specifically I want to focus on and then go into further development with including more thumbnails. The double pages I have decided to focus on are pages 11-12 and 7-8.
I wanted to focus on the cover for the time being first and I realised I could incorporate the text by having the "I" in Rain be the handle of the umbrella and decided to work with that for a little bit. I went on to look into how I wanted the text to look and practiced certain letters to see how it can and should look. Afterwards, I knew I was going to be doing double page 7-8 and that it was to involve seagulls so I searched to see if either Jill Calder or Lauren Child had illustrated a seagull before and luckily Jill Calder had so I began trying to mimic a few and see how it could be done.
