I began by finding certain facts and seeing what exactly came to mind which is where the idea of a horrible histories type illustration format and jokes came from but during further inspection and reflection, said idea then went out the window since it would make the pages a lot more text heavy.

Here I began collaging to see how exactly each could look and such. I made them seem more cartoonish because the age range for the targeted readers are meant to be in primary school so I thought the illustrations didn't have to be realistic.
Here, I began experimenting with different mediums and materials for backgrounds to see what could work, what couldn't and overall have a bit of play.
Back To The Drawing Board...
After thumbnailing, I decided to go into further detail by looking into the sharks themselves and how to sketch and draw them so I began looking at multiple types of shark species and picked a select few to try a few sketches of such as Whale Shark, Tiger Shark, Great White and Hammerhead. I then went into further detail and began sketching shark teeth believing they would be a good marker for the map as to where sharks can be found.
